Cars in the spotlight this week

I’m not one to take a high interest in concepts and “vision” cars as I feel they don’t transcend into anything solid. Well, not all of the time, but most of the time. However, this week in motoring there have been several cars to have hit motoring headlines around the world, some of these cars include the McLaren 720S revealed at Pebble Beach, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, the BMW Z4 Concept and BMW’s new M5. Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet 2017 Mercedes Maybach 6 Cabriolet Mercedes promised a big surprise at this year’s Monterey Car Week and certainly [...]

The Mercedes Benz bakkie is in South Africa, called X-Class

Mercedes Benz pulls the cover off on what probably was the most anticipated 'bakkie' in automotive history – the X-Class. All was revealed to South Africa. The international launch of the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class took place right here in Cape Town, South Africa. It’s the first time a premium manufacturer has produced a bakkie. Of course, it had to be explosive. Even its name exudes some mystery. Anyone else thinks X-Men? The X-Class pickup should come as no surprise as the Mercedes Benz commercial vehicle market is quite large. The German automaker is trying to close the gap between passenger cars [...]

Jaguar E-PACE does a 15m 270d ‘barrel roll’ to take the Guinness World Record

In pure Jaguar Land Rover style, the new E-PACE made its world debut in a way that was mind-blowing! In an extravaganza set up in London, Jaguar added another Guinness World Record to its name. This was done with the release and world debut of its new compact performance E-PACE SUV. Before I get to that, internally the E-PACE is labelled as "the cub" and to reflect this there are even icons of a mother and baby Jaguar cub on the windscreen edge. The baby luxury SUV is a transverse-engined, steel-structured vehicle that is somewhat based on Range Rover Evoque architecture. The [...]

Huge Mazda3 and Mazda6 recall 2017

Mazda has issued a huge Mazda3 and Mazda6 recall in America Over 220 thousand Mazda3 and Mazda6 models have had a recall in America  (there are no details for South Africa yet) due to a potential fault with the parking brake, or hand brake as it's fondly known as in South Africa. The brake apparently malfunctions by either not disengaging when released, or not engaging when used.  This could cause the brake to "drag" while driving if it does not disengage. Or the parking brake may not be strong enough to hold the car when parked causing it to potential [...]

Alfa Romeo Giulia in South Africa

Ferrari influenced the Alfa Romeo Giulia design In this bona fide Italian Alfa Romeo Giulia, you can see so much Ferrari influence. I guess this is what made me fall in love with this car immediately. And I am over the moon that it is now in South Africa. The paddle shifts are HUGE, which means you can change gears manually at almost any steering angle. One can also see the Ferrari influence in the dash. Everything flows. It's almost as if the screen, when turned off, could be just another part of the dash. I drove the [...]

Aston Martin Vantage recalled

A announcement has been made for the Aston Martin Vantage to be recalled globally due to a fault resulting from a transmission software update. Aston Martin Vantage models recalled were produced between June 2010 and September 2013. These are models with the Sportshift I or Sportshift II automated manual transmissions. Apparently, Chinese owners were the first to complain about their cars losing power in 2014. Complaints also surrounded power loss in the steering and braking systems. Aston Martin later sent engineers to investigate. It turned out that dealers did not reset the clutch position after a gearbox software update. When [...]
